Underbody Wash and Rust Inspection
This is the single most important thing you can do after a Cleveland winter. Road salt collects on your undercarriage, brake lines, fuel lines, and suspension components. It does not stop corroding just because winter is over — it keeps eating metal until you wash it off. Get a thorough underbody wash, not just a surface car wash. Then inspect for rust damage on brake lines, fuel lines, exhaust components, and suspension parts. Rust-through on brake lines is a safety emergency. At Nick's, we inspect the undercarriage during every spring service and flag anything that needs attention before it becomes dangerous.
Wheel Alignment Check
Cleveland potholes destroy alignment. If you hit any potholes this winter — and you did, everyone does — your alignment is probably off. Misalignment causes uneven tire wear, pulling to one side, and reduced fuel economy. Left unchecked, bad alignment can burn through a set of tires in half their normal life. A spring alignment check costs far less than premature tire replacement. We recommend checking alignment every spring and after any significant pothole impact.

Tire Swap and Inspection
If you ran winter tires, spring is swap time. Leaving winter tires on in warm weather wears them out fast and reduces handling. When we swap your tires, we inspect each one for damage, check tread depth, and look for signs of uneven wear that might indicate alignment or suspension problems. If you ran all-season tires through winter, check them for pothole damage — bulges in the sidewall, cuts, or uneven wear. Cleveland winter roads are hard on tires.
Fluid Check and Battery Test
Cold weather is hard on fluids and batteries. Check and top off coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid. If any fluid looks dark, contaminated, or low, it is time for a flush or service. Batteries suffer in extreme cold — a battery that barely survived winter may fail in the first heat wave. We load test batteries to check if they have enough life left or if replacement makes sense before summer.
Brakes, Wipers, and Lights
Salt and moisture accelerate brake wear and rotor rust. Spring is a good time to inspect brake pads, rotors, and brake lines. Replace worn wiper blades — winter destroys them. Check all exterior lights — bulbs burn out more frequently in cold weather. These are small items that make a big safety difference. Come to Nick's Tire and Auto for your complete spring checkup.
