Question 2

What are your hours of operation?

Accepted Answer

We are open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. No appointment needed — first come, first served, 7 days a week.

Question 3

Do I need an appointment?

Accepted Answer

No appointments needed — Nick's is first-come, first-served, 7 days a week. Walk in any time during open hours. If you want to skip the wait, you can schedule a drop-off online through our website or call us at (216) 862-0005 so we have the right parts ready.

Question 4

What forms of payment do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept cash, all major credit and debit cards, and most fleet cards. We want to make payment as convenient as possible for our customers.

Question 5

My check engine light is on. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

A check engine light can indicate anything from a loose gas cap to a serious engine problem. Walk in and we'll plug in the scanner to read the trouble codes — same code reader the dealer uses. Free scan, written quote if it needs deeper checking. You don't pay until you say yes.

Question 6

How much does a diagnostic scan cost?

Accepted Answer

Code scan is free on every visit. If it needs deeper checking — live data, component testing — we write you a quote first. Free check. Written quote. You don't pay until you say yes. Call (216) 862-0005 if you want details before you walk in.

Question 7

I failed my Ohio E-Check. Can you help?

Accepted Answer

Yes. E-Check failures are one of our specialties. Common causes include faulty oxygen sensors, EVAP system leaks, catalytic converter problems, and incomplete drive cycle monitors. We diagnose the exact cause, make the repair, and ensure all emissions monitors complete so your vehicle can pass reinspection.

Question 8

How long does an emissions repair take?

Accepted Answer

Most emissions repairs can be completed in one to two days, depending on the specific issue and parts availability. Simple fixes like replacing an oxygen sensor can often be done same-day. We will give you an accurate timeline after diagnosing the problem.

Question 9

How do I know if my brakes need to be replaced?

Accepted Answer

Common signs include squealing or grinding noises when braking, a soft or spongy brake pedal, the vehicle pulling to one side during braking, or a vibrating steering wheel. If you notice any of these — come in and we'll check the brakes. Sooner the better, squealing turns to metal-on-metal fast.

Question 10

Do you show me the brake problem before doing the repair?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We walk every customer under the car, show you the worn parts, and tell you what needs to be replaced. Free check. Written quote. You don't pay until you say yes.

Question 11

Do you sell new and used tires?

Accepted Answer

Yes. New tires from major brands — Goodyear, Cooper, Michelin, Bridgestone — and used tires from $25 installed on select 12-inch sizes (most run $40-80 installed). Mount, balance, valve stems, alignment check included with every set.

Question 12

How often should I rotate my tires?

Accepted Answer

We recommend rotating your tires every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, or roughly every other oil change. Regular rotation promotes even tread wear and extends the life of your tires, saving you money in the long run.

Question 13

How often do I need an oil change?

Accepted Answer

For most modern vehicles, we recommend an oil change every 5,000 miles for conventional oil or every 7,500 to 10,000 miles for full synthetic oil. Check your owner's manual for your specific vehicle's recommendation, or ask our technicians.

Question 14

Do you provide written estimates before starting work?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Written estimate before any wrench moves. If we find something else while we're in there, we stop and call you — you say yes or no on the new number. Free check. Written quote. You don't pay until you say yes.

Question 15

Do you offer any warranty on repairs?

Accepted Answer

Yes — parts are covered for 12 months and labor for 90 days. The warranty is in writing on every receipt. Some specialty parts (custom-order or tire-specific) follow the manufacturer's separate warranty; we'll flag those upfront on the estimate. Ask your service advisor if you want the specifics for your repair.

Question 16

My car is shaking while driving. What could be wrong?

Accepted Answer

Car shaking can be caused by unbalanced tires, worn brake rotors, bad wheel bearings, worn CV joints, or engine misfires. The cause depends on when the shaking occurs — at highway speeds, during braking, or at idle. We diagnose the exact cause so you only pay for what needs to be fixed. Visit our car shaking while driving page for more details.

Question 17

My brakes are making a grinding noise. Is it safe to drive?

Accepted Answer

Grinding brakes usually mean the brake pads are completely worn through and the metal backing plate is grinding against the rotor. This is a safety issue. Continued driving can damage the rotors and calipers, increasing the repair cost significantly. We recommend getting this checked immediately. Learn more on our brakes grinding page.

Question 18

My check engine light is flashing. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

A flashing check engine light indicates an active engine misfire that can damage your catalytic converter. You should reduce speed, avoid hard acceleration, and get to a shop as soon as possible. A steady check engine light is less urgent but should still be diagnosed promptly. See our check engine light flashing page for more information.

Question 19

My car is overheating. What causes this?

Accepted Answer

Common causes include a failing thermostat, coolant leak, bad water pump, clogged radiator, or a blown head gasket. If your temperature gauge is in the red, pull over safely and turn off the engine. Do not open the radiator cap when hot. Call us and we will help you figure out the next step. Read more on our car overheating page.

Question 24

What is Acima lease-to-own?

Accepted Answer

Acima is a rental purchase agreement — not a loan, credit, or financing. At Nick's Tire & Auto, you can lease the tires and parts you need. Acima says no credit history is required, though it obtains information from consumer reporting agencies. A $10 start is available only in select circumstances and does not include taxes or other charges. Early purchase options can lower the total cost; your lease shows them. Not available in MN, NJ, WI, or WY.

Question 25

How does Acima's $10 start work?

Accepted Answer

Apply with Acima online or in store. If Acima approves you, your lease shows the initial payment, which can be $10 in select circumstances (taxes and other charges extra), along with the payment schedule and total cost, before you sign. Not a loan or credit, and not every applicant is approved.

Question 26

Can I use Acima again after paying off my first lease?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can apply with Acima again; Acima decides approval and the amount each time. Compare all four payment programs at nickstire.org/financing.
