CAR PULLING
TO ONE SIDE?
If your vehicle drifts left or right when you let go of the steering wheel, something is causing uneven forces on your tires. We identify and correct the cause.
WHAT IS HAPPENING
A vehicle that pulls to one side is not just inconvenient — it causes uneven tire wear and can indicate a safety issue. The pull can be constant, intermittent, or only during braking. Each pattern has different causes. A constant pull usually relates to alignment or tire pressure. Pulling only during braking indicates a brake problem. A pull that appeared suddenly after hitting a pothole suggests bent suspension components.
WHEN TO STOP DRIVING
If the pull is mild and consistent, you can safely drive to a shop. If the vehicle pulls sharply or suddenly, especially during braking, reduce speed and have it inspected immediately. A sudden pull during braking can indicate a brake hose failure, which is a safety emergency.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
Wheel Alignment
CommonMisaligned wheels are the most common cause of pulling. If the camber, caster, or toe angles are different side to side, the vehicle will pull toward the side with more positive camber or less caster. We perform a four-wheel alignment check and adjust all angles to factory specifications.
Uneven Tire Pressure
CommonA tire with lower pressure than the opposite side creates more rolling resistance, causing the vehicle to pull toward that side. We check and adjust all tire pressures to the manufacturer's specification. If a tire keeps losing pressure, we inspect for leaks.
Brake Caliper Sticking
ModerateA brake caliper that does not fully release creates drag on one side, pulling the vehicle in that direction. You may also notice the vehicle pulling more during braking. We check caliper slide pins, piston movement, and brake hose condition.
Uneven Tire Wear
ModerateTires with different tread depths or wear patterns on the same axle can cause pulling. This is why regular tire rotation is important. We measure tread depth on all tires and recommend rotation or replacement as needed.
Bent Control Arm or Strut
Less CommonA hard pothole impact can bend a control arm or strut, changing the alignment angles beyond what a standard alignment can correct. We inspect suspension components for damage and replace bent parts before aligning.
Worn Suspension Bushings
Less CommonControl arm bushings and strut mounts wear over time, allowing the alignment to shift. This causes gradual pulling that gets worse. We inspect all bushings for cracking, splitting, and excessive play.
HOW WE DIAGNOSE THIS
We start by checking tire pressures and inspecting tires for uneven wear. Then we perform a four-wheel alignment check to measure all angles. We inspect brake components for drag and check suspension parts for damage or wear. If the vehicle pulls only during braking, we focus on the brake system. This systematic approach ensures we find the root cause.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can tire pressure cause my car to pull?
Yes. Even a 5 PSI difference between the left and right tires can cause noticeable pulling. Always check tire pressures first — it is the simplest and cheapest fix.
How often should I get an alignment?
We recommend checking alignment annually or after hitting a significant pothole. In Cleveland, where road conditions are rough, many drivers need alignment more frequently.
Why does my car pull only when braking?
Pulling during braking usually means one brake caliper is applying more force than the other. This can be caused by a sticking caliper, a collapsed brake hose, or uneven pad wear. We inspect the entire brake system to find the cause.
