Signs Your Alignment Is Off
The most obvious sign is the vehicle pulling to the left or right when you let go of the steering wheel on a flat, straight road. But there are subtler signs too. Your steering wheel may be off center — you are driving straight but the wheel is turned slightly. You may notice the car drifts or wanders at highway speed on I-90. Tire wear patterns are another giveaway — one-sided wear on the inner or outer edge means camber is off, and feathered wear across the tread means toe is misaligned. If you recently hit a pothole hard enough to feel it in the steering, your alignment likely shifted.
What Alignment Actually Adjusts
A wheel alignment adjusts three angles. Camber is the inward or outward tilt of the tire when viewed from the front — it affects even wear across the tread width. Toe is whether the front of the tires point slightly inward or outward — it affects feathering and tire scrub. Caster is the tilt of the steering axis — it affects straight-line stability and steering return. Most alignment issues in Cleveland involve camber and toe because those are the angles most affected by pothole impacts. Our alignment rack measures all three angles on all four wheels and we adjust to manufacturer specifications.

Why Cleveland Is Hard on Alignment
Cleveland roads are brutal on alignment. The freeze-thaw cycle creates potholes that grow from November through April. Euclid Avenue, Carnegie Avenue, St Clair — these roads are assault courses for your suspension every spring. A single hard pothole hit can push camber out by a full degree, which is enough to wear the inner edge of a tire down to the cords in 10,000 miles. Road construction also matters — uneven pavement, temporary steel plates, and construction debris all contribute. We recommend Cleveland drivers get an alignment check at least once a year, and always after hitting a significant pothole.
Alignment Cost at Nick's Tire and Auto
A four-wheel alignment at Nick's runs $80 to $100. That is it. The job takes about 45 minutes to an hour. We measure all angles on all four wheels, adjust everything to factory spec, and print out a before and after report so you can see exactly what changed. Compare that to the cost of uneven tire wear — if bad alignment chews up a set of tires 15,000 miles early, you are losing $400 to $800 in tire life. An $80 alignment that saves your tires is one of the best investments in vehicle maintenance.
When to Get an Alignment
Get an alignment whenever you install new tires — starting a fresh set on a misaligned car is throwing money away. Get one after any significant pothole impact. Get one if you notice any pulling, wandering, off-center steering, or uneven tire wear. And get a check at least annually as preventive maintenance, especially after Cleveland winter. Walk into Nick's Tire and Auto at 17625 Euclid Ave, Euclid or call (216) 862-0005. Alignment, [tires](/tires), and [brake repair](/brakes) — all under one roof, 7 days a week.
