FORD F-150 TIRE GUIDE — SIZES, PRICES, TIPS

The Ford F-150 is the best-selling vehicle in America. Here is everything Cleveland F-150 owners need to know about tires — sizes, types, prices, and when to replace.

F-150 Tire Sizes by Trim and Year

The F-150 comes with different tire sizes depending on the trim level and model year. The most common sizes we see at our shop are 265/70R17 on XL and XLT trims, 275/65R18 on XLT and Lariat trims, 275/60R20 on Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims, and 275/55R20 or 285/45R22 on Limited and higher trims. Some Raptor and Tremor models run 315/70R17 or 35-inch tires. Your correct tire size is on the sticker inside the driver's door jamb. Running the wrong size affects your speedometer accuracy, ABS function, and can void your warranty on newer trucks.

All-Terrain vs Highway vs Mud-Terrain — Which Is Right for You

Most Cleveland F-150 owners are best served by a quality all-terrain tire. Here is why. Highway tires are smooth and quiet but lose traction fast in snow and on muddy job sites. Mud-terrain tires are loud on pavement, wear faster on highways, and actually perform worse than all-terrains in snow because the tread blocks are too aggressive. All-terrain tires give you the best of both worlds — good highway manners for commuting on I-90, solid grip in Ohio snow and rain, and enough off-road capability for gravel roads, job sites, and boat ramps. Top picks we recommend: BFGoodrich KO2, Falken Wildpeak AT3W, and Toyo Open Country AT3. These are all excellent in Cleveland conditions.

F-150 Tire Prices at Nick's

For 265/70R17 — the most common F-150 size — a set of four quality all-terrain tires runs $600 to $900 installed with mount, balance, and new valve stems. For 275/65R18, expect $700 to $1,000 for four. For 275/60R20, $800 to $1,100 for four. These prices include mounting, balancing, and new rubber valve stems. We also carry quality used tires for F-150s starting at $40 to $100 each mounted — a solid option if you are not ready to invest in a full new set. We price significantly below the big chain tire shops and way below the Ford dealership.

How Long Do F-150 Tires Last in Cleveland?

Tire life depends on the type, driving habits, alignment, and maintenance. Highway tires on a well-aligned F-150 can last 50,000 to 70,000 miles. All-terrain tires typically last 40,000 to 60,000 miles. Mud-terrain tires last 30,000 to 40,000 miles at best. Cleveland's rough roads, potholes, and road salt all reduce tire life. If you hit a bad pothole on Carnegie Ave or the I-90 Shoreway, check your alignment — a misaligned F-150 chews through tires fast because of the vehicle's weight. We recommend rotating your tires every 5,000 to 7,500 miles and checking alignment every spring after pothole season.
