What to Do When You Get a Flat Tire
First — do not panic and do not keep driving on it. Driving on a flat destroys the tire and can damage the rim, turning a $15 repair into a $200 problem. Pull over safely as soon as possible. Turn on your hazard lights. If you are on a busy road like Euclid Ave, E 185th, or Lakeshore Blvd, try to get into a parking lot or side street. If you are on I-90 or I-271, pull as far onto the shoulder as you can and stay in your vehicle with your seatbelt on until help arrives. Cleveland traffic does not slow down for much.
Can a Flat Tire Be Repaired or Does It Need Replacing?
Most flat tires caused by nails, screws, or small punctures in the tread area can be repaired with a plug-patch combo — the industry-standard permanent repair. At Nick's Tire and Auto, a flat repair starts at $15 and takes about 15 minutes. We remove the tire from the rim, inspect the inside for damage, apply the plug-patch from the interior, and remount and balance the tire. However, not every flat can be saved. If the puncture is in the sidewall, if the tire has been driven on flat for more than a mile, or if the internal structure is damaged, the tire needs to be replaced. We carry a full inventory of [new and quality used tires](/tires) so you are never stuck waiting for a special order.

How Much Does Flat Tire Repair Cost in Cleveland?
A standard plug-patch repair at Nick's is $15 to $25 depending on the tire size and type. If the tire cannot be repaired, a quality used replacement starts at $40 to $60 mounted and balanced. A new tire ranges from $80 to $200+ depending on size and brand. Compare that to what some roadside assistance companies charge — $75 to $150 just to show up and put on your spare, and you still need the tire fixed afterward. Driving straight to us is almost always the cheaper and faster option. We are at 17625 Euclid Ave in Euclid — right off E 185th Street, easy access from I-90.
Common Causes of Flat Tires in Cleveland
Cleveland roads are brutal on tires. Construction debris on I-90 and I-480 is a constant source of nails and screws. Potholes on Euclid Ave, St Clair Ave, and basically every side street in East Cleveland crack rims and cause pinch flats. Road salt corrosion weakens tire beads over winter. And old tires with low tread are more vulnerable to everything. If you are getting flats frequently, it might be time for new tires — not just another patch.
